Tesco addresses the Rotary Club of Misbourne Matins

The Rotary Club of Misbourne Matins welcomed Michael Kissman, the Corporate Affairs Manager for Tesco in the South-East, to its breakfast meeting on Wednesday 10 October. Mr Kissman gave a short presentation about Tesco’s strategy for progressing the plans for the new store in Gerrards Cross, before taking questions from local Rotarians and their guests.

Addressing the audience, Mr Kissman outlined the new timetable for the store and the chosen method of construction for the tunnel. He stressed that safety would be the absolute priority during the construction process, though where the timetable could be brought forward without compromising safety, the development team would look at ways in which this could be achieved.

The issue of the haul route consent required from the council to enable fill material to be transported to the site by rail was also raised by the audience, as was the use of Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA). In responding to concerns about IBAA, Mr Kissman reiterated the conclusion of the Acton Report that its use on the Gerrards Cross site is “safe and lawful”. Mr Kissman also referred to an independent response issued by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), which backed up Dr Acton’s conclusions.

Speaking on the event, Michael Kissman commented: “I was very pleased to be invited to speak at the Rotary Club of Misbourne Matins. The discussion was lively and interesting and there were, of-course, a number of difficult issues raised which I was pleased to address. On balance, it was heartening to hear support for our plans from most of the audience.”

Club President Louis Moss, who organised the Tesco visit, explained: “As Rotarians, we have a passionate interest in our local environment and we were delighted to welcome Mr Kissman who reassured us on several points of concern and gave a really interesting presentation on Tesco’s plans for its forthcoming store.”
