In 2006 Tesco appointed Costain and Scott Wilson to develop and review a number of design options for the site.

Out of this comprehensive review, the option to place an additional reinforced concrete arch, which will bear the structural load of the store development above the original segmental arch construction has emerged as the most robust and safest means of progressing. This new design concept is substantially more robust than other proposed options.

However, as with all construction projects changes to the time lines are inevitable, in some cases it may be that we are able to move quicker than originally thought or some aspects of the work may be put back. We continue to be in constant discussions with Network Rail to ensure that every stage of the development process has all the necessary improvements.
