In 2006 Tesco appointed Costain and Scott Wilson to develop and review a number of design options for the site.

Out of this comprehensive review, the option to place an additional reinforced concrete arch, which will bear the structural load of the store development above the original segmental arch construction has emerged as the most robust and safest means of progressing. This new design concept is substantially more robust than other proposed options.

This website includes information about what these new plans will entail and how long they will take to implement. However, please note that we are in discussions with Network Rail that may enable us to begin some preliminary works early.

In particular, if Network Rail approve, we would like to be able to begin taking down the current store frame which would help to improve the immediate appearance of the area and enable us to bring the opening of the store forward from the dates given on this website.
