Tesco were given planning permission to build a store in Gerrards Cross on land owned by Network Rail after a thorough examination by the Planning Inspectorate and the Deputy Prime Minister.

Unfortunately and to our deep regret, on the 30th June 2005 the tunnel over the rail line partially collapsed.

There followed a seven-week closure of the tunnel, during which extensive work was carried out to ensure the safety of the area immediately around it. The line was then reopened with the approval of Network Rail and the Health and Safety Executive.

Since this time, Tesco has been working with Network Rail to ensure that the appropriate action has and continues to be taken as we seek to resolve this situation and move the project forward. Network Rail have checked and approved the remaining tunnel as safe to use by trains.
